EPISODE DESCRIPTION
On this installment of The PAPER STREET Podcast, hosts Becky and Shawn discuss AMC and Regal Theaters threatening to never again screen Universal's movies. This comes after NBC/Universal announced their intentions to do day-and-date releases of their future films. They speculate on the possible ramifications it might have on independent films and how the theatrical window, which was already closing, might be closing a lot faster now. STILL/BORN director Brandon Christensen joins the show to talk about his latest feature Z (now streaming on SHUDDER!), crafting good scares, and becoming a well-rounded filmmaker (he's a writer, producer, editor, and visual effects artist as well). The hosts also play a round of Rapid Fire 15 with Brandon, fawn over Arnold Snorts-enegger's '90s movie output, plus Becky's Deep Cut Slasher of the Week, and more!

I've seen the horror shorts mentioned and while we can't see Z yet and I'm not super into horror so the short ones are good but the lighting is amazing . I gather they are a lot of work to minutes on screen but I was reading about other horror producers doing the same thing in the pandemic.

I'm really interested in this discussion about the closing theatrical window. While I love the convenience of streaming at home, there's something special about catching a movie on the big screen. I'm curious to hear Brandon Christensen's perspective and the arguments for and against this trend. I wonder if there's a middle ground where studios can make money on both theatrical releases and streaming, or if the theatrical experience is destined to become more niche.
